Why should I start using DomuS3D®? What advantages does it have?
There are many advantages to using Domus3D®: it allows the client to easily view his or her final solution, involving him or her directly in the product selection process; it reduces uncertainty, leading to a more informed and satisfying final purchase; it increases the professionalism of the retailer and of the services supplied by the sales point; it eliminates typical problems associated with freehand drawing; it allows the client to easily explore possible design solutions; and, lastly, thanks to the creation of blueprints, it greatly decreases the risk of error in the installation phase of the project. In addition, it allows you to suggest solutions to a new client that have already been developed, quickly bringing back and reworking projects created in the past.
How long will it take me to get familiar with DomuS3D®?
While the amount of time it takes to get familiar with our program varies for each user, with the aid of our video tutorials, available on the Live! page, you can get up to speed and acquire a basic “know-how” to create complete projects starting right away. Furthermore, the simple and intuitive user interface is easy to get the hang of and allows you to work easily and independently within the entire program. No specific prior knowledge is required, however, a basic familiarity with computers is always helpful.
How long does it take, on average, to create and complete a project?
It depends on the number of rooms, their size, and the level of detail you require. If you start with a clear idea, a single room only takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. This is thanks to the fact that our stock catalogues offer all the “basic graphic elements” necessary for furnishing, for which the design consists largely in dragging and dropping elements into the internal design area, turning the design process into a simple assembly operation. This way you can stay focused on the global solution rather than on the creation of single elements. Evidently, the time dedicated to a project can increase if you want to try out different simulations, but that is to be expected: the extra time is part of the fun of exploring different furnishing solutions easily created thanks to the program’s flexibility, which allows you to easily change any aspect of your project at any time.
How long does it take to complete a rendering?
The time needed to complete a rendering depends on a number of factors, for example, the capability of the hardware, the size of the generated image, the number of elements and light sources present in the scene, and the quality of the image. That said, for a small image (e.g. 1024x800 pixels) of a single setting, with medium quality, run on an average computer, a rendering takes from about 2 to 4 minutes. For a full HD image (1920 x 1080) of a more detailed project, the average time should not exceed 10 minutes. If a higher photographic quality is required, the time required can double or even triple.
Can I insert into the program my own elements, for example tiles or 3D objects?
Absolutely: the program is “open” and allows the introduction of new tiles and new 3D elements. For tiles, having a .jpg image in RGB color (e.g. a photograph) will suffice, while for furnishing elements, 3D models in .dxf, .3ds, .fbx, or .skp (SketchUp) formats are necessary. As for SketchUp, from inside the Live! page, it’s possible to navigate the vast 3D Warehouse library and import any available element directly into DomuS3D® with a simple click.
If I run into trouble at the start, are there training courses that explain how to use the program?
Yes. In addition to the video tutorials available online from inside the Live! page, there are a number of other ways to learn to use the program: online training sessions, one-day group courses held at our Sassuolo Maticad office, customized one-day courses at our Maticad offices, and, additionally, training courses held at the client’s offices, whether in Italy or abroad. Our courses are generally divided into two major categories: basic and advanced. For customized training courses, we try to expand upon the most important subject matter, complementing the skills already developed by the user in order to provide the most comprehensive training possible. How often are the tile and furnishing catalogues updated?
We have a team of people that works daily on the creation of 3D elements, the management and publication of new catalogues, and the updates we receive directly from manufacturers. It’s a non-stop task; given the quantity of manufacturers and the sheer number of products around the world, even with our considerable effort, it may be necessary from time to time to receive a hand from our clients (showroom vendors) in pushing manufacturers to provide us with material. Although it’s impossible to have everything from everyone, we are fully aware that the success of DomuS3D® depends not only on the quality of the product, but also on the catalogues that it is able to support and offer to its users.
How often are program updates released? Why should I update the product?
In general, a major release is published each year and 2 to 3 free minor releases are published in between. Updating to the newest major release is not mandatory and it has an expected average cost of around 15% of the cost of a new license. Staying up-to-date with the newest release has a number of advantages: the existence of new and improved features that generally speed up and simplify the program, more efficient use of operating systems, their updates and graphics card drivers, and the ongoing compatibility of data as the structure of catalogues evolves and grows with new information and new intelligence introduced in each new version. For example, in the 2016 version, automatic hooking points were introduced which led to the elaboration of various families of 3D elements: this improvement, that facilitates for example the correct positioning of faucets on sinks (thanks to the magnetism of the exact point), remains hidden and ignored in previous versions.
How does installation work? Will I be able to install the program on my own?
The installation procedure is guided and extremely simple: everything runs automatically and in the few cases in which a response is required, you can simply confirm the default response already proposed.
What does “technical assistance” consist of?
The technical assistance fee allows you to access Maticad’s support services: in case of irregularities, problematic situations, or the inability to carry out routine operations, you can contact Maticad’s call center. Through the use of a code received with the subscription to this service, you will access an operator who can walk you through your problem, and if necessary, remotely connect and directly operate on the program in order to understand your problem and resolve it as quickly as possible. We would like to note that if the problem arises from insufficient knowledge of the program, we strongly recommend taking one of our in-depth courses, which will prove itself useful in finding solutions to future problems, as well.
I have two branches and one person that works between offices depending on where he or she is needed: is it possible to install a license on two computers?
Thanks to the USB dongle, the program can be installed on as many computers as you would like, but will only be operable on the one in which the dongle is inserted. Without the USB dongle, the program will not function. That being said, an employee can work for a bit on one computer, export the project package, and bring it along with him or her while on the road. This way, when he or she is working from another branch, on a computer on which the same version of the program is installed, he or she can import the project and continue the design. If, however, you need two installations to operate simultaneously, it is necessary to purchase a second license for the program.
Do I need to be connected to the internet to work on DomuS3D®?
Not necessarily. For design work, an internet connection is not necessary. Internet is required, however, to download catalogues and to use the Live! page, for example, to watch video tutorials.
